Lent is a season gifted to us by the Church that allows us to focus on those things that burden our souls and keep us from a full and transformed relationship with Jesus. People think I’m crazy when I say this, but Lent is my favorite season of the Church year. As we enter the summer months, remember that the church will be open for worship every Sunday.
Forming Our Children's Faith
We believe that this church is a special church; a church in which you will feel the presence of Jesus in a real and dynamic way. A lively, energetic, and welcoming congregation, St. Peter’s is a Eucharist-centered parish in the heart of center city or “uptown” Charlotte. We print the first names of those for whom prayers are asked in the bulletins and on the website. The denomination also will be debating policy stances regarding fossil fuels and other issues as well as voting on major budget cuts to denominational programs, reflective of losing thousands of congregations.

It is the month of September, and at Saint Margaret’s, we find ourselves saying goodbye to our dear friends and members of the clergy, Fr. While I never expected these departures to occur so close together, they are a result of God’s call for each one of them. Lito+, a call to the retired life after 47 years of faithful ministry. Eric+, the exciting call to lead a congregation as its next rector. All this serves as a reminder that no matter the circumstance we find ourselves in, the story of Jesus continues to unfold in our world.

It seems so simple, yet if we are being honest with ourselves, how much effort do we really give? I’ve noticed that within our own denomination, we spend so much time, energy, and resources on a variety of issues, but very little effort on proclaiming Christ in our culture. Those individual issues might be all wonderful causes, but they’re not the thing! If the church is not primarily about spreading the good news; if it does not bring new people to the faith, then we have lost our way.
Sunday Worship Schedule
In 1952, the Church building and the Parish House (built in 1948) were badly damaged by fire. The Church was enlarged when it was rebuilt, and in 1959, a Youth Building was added. The votes reverse prohibitive policies toward LGBTQ people taken on at the denomination’s 2019 General Convention, when delegates doubled down and tightened bans on gay clergy and same-sex marriage. Today, however, St. Martin's is active and growing, with members of all ages, coming from a wide geographic area. People who attend St. Martin's today are here because of a strong commitment to outreach, emphasis on Christian formation and education programs for children, youth, and adults, and a commitment to radical Christian hospitality.
The delegates will also vote on a new set of Social Principles — a wholesale revision of an existing set of non-binding statements — which also received overwhelming committee approval last week. The new version omits the previous version’s declaration that homosexuality is “incompatible with Christian teaching.” And it defines marriage as a sacred covenant between “two people of faith,” without specifying gender. Tuesday evening at Little Rock AME Zion Church, located at 401 North McDowell Street. Since that contentious vote, however, the denomination’s makeup has changed, in large part because of conservative congregations departing in anticipation of the loosening of strictures around homosexuality that are becoming official this week. Those are expected to be debated as part of a revision to the denomination’s social principles.
Therefore, as I did seven years ago, I will enter a time of sabbatical on July 4th and return to Saint Margaret’s on October 4th. Each week dedicated volunteers share a lesson with our students and learn and practice the three principles of Love God, Love Neighbor, and Love Self. We do this through studying Bible stories, listening to children’s books from a variety of authors, and engaging in discussion, games, and crafts. Each month we will have a service project during class to highlight what we’ve learned. This month we will learn about Saint Margaret’s Card Ministry and spread love with encouraging cards. It is a time of year that brings joy, anticipation, family, craziness, and all sorts of varied activities.
— As east Charlotte continues to reckon with Monday's deadly shooting along Galway Avenue, three community groups offered a chance for neighbors to join together with a prayer vigil. In Texas, for example, a historic stronghold, more than 40 percent of United Methodist congregations left the denomination. Some joined the breakaway conservative Global Methodist Church, while others have remained independent. Last week, the conference approved the first phrase of a “regionalization” plan that would restructure the global denomination to give different regions autonomy on adapting rules on issues including sexuality.
In 2003, the Vestry and Clergy of Saint Margaret’s realized that a new, bigger home was needed. At that time, the Church undertook a Capital Campaign to raise money to build a new home. In the Spring of 2005, Saint Margaret’s relocated to its current facility in Waxhaw, North Carolina. Father Todd’s first Sunday at Saint Margaret’s was August 10th, 2008.
Since its founding in 1882 as one of the oldest historically African American Episcopal Churches in North Carolina, St. Michael and All Angels has been a faithful witness to God's good news through many acts of ministry. St. Michael and all Angels is ready to enter a new season of its rich history. Without a permanent home for the last 10 years, the good people of St. Michael and All Angels broke down their chairs every Sunday as they patiently awaited their new building.
